Julieann off to Dublin, London

Derry Journal reporter Julieann Campbell was in Dublin last night for the launch of her critically acclaimed book, ‘Setting the Truth Free: The Inside Story of the Bloody Sunday Justice Campaign.”
The book was unveiled to a Dublin audience by former Taoiseach John Bruton, who, in the mid-1990s, played a key role in the Irish government declaring its support for a new inquiry.
Indeed, thanks to Mr. Bruton, the Irish government’s own report into the events of January 30, 1972 was commissioned - a move that was influential in Tony Blair’s decision to establish a new inquiry.
Last night’s launch, which took place at Connolly Books in Temple Bar, was attended by the great and the good of Dublin literary life.
Later this week - on Friday to be exact - the book will be launched in London by eminent human rights lawyer Gareth Peirce.
Ms. Peirce, who has worked on a number of high profile cases including the Birmingham Six and Guildford Four, has also penned the foreword for the book.
In it, she says the families of those who died on Bloody Sunday “achieved the impossible, compelling the state to pick up the mirror, to recognise itself and finally admit its guilt.”
The London launch will take place at Bookmarks Bookshop in Bloomsbury (6.30 p.m.)
The Dublin and London dates follow a very successful launch in Derry last week.
An Culturlann was packed to capacity for the event which was attended by, among others, Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness, retired Bishop of Derry, Dr. Edward Daly, singer/songwriter, Christy Moore and relatives of those murdered and wounded.
At the weekend, Julieann took part in a successful book-signing event at Eason’s Foyleside.
At one stage, there was a long line of people queueing out the door waiting to have their book signed.
Among those who stopped to chat with Julieann and have a book signed was Michael Mansfield QC.
Mr. Mansfield, who was in the city to deliver the annual Bloody Sunday Lecture, represented a number of the families of the dead and wounded at the Saville hearings.
‘Setting the Truth Free’ is available from local bookshops.
