Two Derry girls are getting ready to take on the European pageant circuit when they represent their country as part of an Ireland-wide team in Malta this November
Tomasina Shiels and Emma Deery, both 19, recently attended the Dublin selection night for the Miss European Team Ireland pageant.
Along with eight other Irish beauties, the Derry girls will take part in the week long final in Malta in November - where they will have to wow the judges with their personalities, good looks, ability to work as part of a team and even their dance moves!
Speaking to the ‘Journal’ yesterday Emma said both she and Tomasina were looking forward to the challenges ahead - and were delighted to be competing alongside each other.
“We’ve known each other forever,” she said. “We have worked together and danced together in the McConomy School of Irish Dance so doing this together is great fun.
“Normally the organisers only choose one girl from each city so we know we are really lucky to have been chosen together.
“We went along to the selection night expecting just to have a bit of fun, so we couldn’t believe it when we were picked to represent Ireland.”
Over the next eight months the girls will have to work alongside their fellow Irish team-mates to fundraise for the week-long trip to Malta.
“It is all about teamwork. The pageant organisers really want to see how we can work together up to and throughout the competition and this will all help determine who is ultimately crowned Miss European.”
The girls will enjoy a fun-filled week and experience a spectacular Opening Ceremony, Fancy Dress Competition, Gala Dinners, Team Dance Competition and Grand Finale, where Miss European will be chosen.
