Media stars at health awards
The work of some of the most talented students working in media across the North was on show at Magee campus of the University of Ulster this afternoon (Weds) when the winners were announced of this year's Western Investing For Health Awards.
A student at North West Institute, Aisling Doherty, took the highly-competitive short film category with her brilliant piece 'A Recipe for Disaster'. Runners-up in this category were Michael Timoney, who looked at road safety, Ailise McCallion for her innovative piece on abuse and Michaela Martin, who looked at the problem of eating disorders.
Awards were presented in five different categories by judges Martin McGinley, editor of the Derry Journal; Eamon O'Kane of Derry Health Cities; and Jim King of the Health and Safety Executive. Others on the judging panel were Dr Jacqui McCall, a public health consultant with the Western Board, and Seamus Mullen, Western Investing for Health assistant manager.
Other prizewinners included Geraldine Broadley from Burnfoot, who also took one of the top awards last year; Shane Devine from Strabane; Aisling Elliott from Carnhill in Derry; Ben Parsons; Claire Savage; Andrew Boyle; Marie Duffy; and Adrian Harmon from Letterkenny.
