From the archives - July 1978 - Residents of Derry ‘High Flats’ demand re-housing action

At a meeting of the Action Committee of the residents of the top floor of the Rossville Street flats, it was decided that the present situation presented problems that could only be resolved by the families on the top floor being rehoused as soon as possible.

The meeting appreciated the difficulties involved for the Housing Executive in resolving the situation, but felt however, a firm commitment in principle to rehouse these people would be sufficient, to give people hope that an end to their sufferings was in sight. It was pointed out that other agencies such as the City Council sanitary department, Social Welfare and Age Concern should have an active interest in pursuing a satisfactory end to the situation.

The meeting was attended by councillors and community workers.
