The United Unionist Action Council’s strike call met with very little response in Derry.

Apart from road blocks and over 40 cases of alleged intimidation, the strike has been a failure in the city, and the support given to the strike call by the Londonderry and District Unionist Association Council did not result in any increase in absenteeism.

No serious attempt was made to halt workers going to the Maydown industrial estate on the outskirts of the city but several minor obstructive tactics were employed by groups of men who formed human chains on the main road leading from the city to Maydown and nails and tacks were spread across the main road, puncturing the tyres of many vehicles.

An electricity transformer was also tampered with at Gortnessy, outside the city.
