Playhouse festival in its 22nd year

This summer local promotions company Partridge Peartree will help the Playhouse Children and Teens Arts Festival celebrate Music City.

Now into its 22nd year, the festival is the longest running in Northern Ireland, and will run from Monday July 21- Friday August 1.

And this year the festival will make a musical mark to celebrate Derry’s unique musical heritage and 2013 legacy with its designation as City of Music for 2014.

For several years, Partridge Peartree has provided the t-shirts which have become an iconic part of the festival, which will provide four to 16 year olds with unique workshops in musical theatre, animation, dance and visual arts, as well as a special classes in producing and curating your own artwork.

Music photographers with independent record label Smalltown America, artists and curators from local Art Galleries, and the founder of a new musical theatre company are among the facilitators announced for the two week festival.

Facilitators for the festival include Bernie Doherty of Boogie Bugs, Kirsten McLaughlin of KidArt, music photographer Lisa Byrne of Wrapped in Plastic Photography, and Ryan Quinn of new musical theatre company Black Air Theatre Company.

“We’re delighted to have Partridge Peartree’s unique help again this year, and it’s wonderful to see a local business faithfully supporting a local community event,” festival co-ordinator Jessica Caldwell said.

“The festival will be divided into three age categories; from four to six year-olds, seven to 12 year-olds and our teens - ranging from 13-16. This means that every group will get the very best and most out of their experience and ensures a safe and friendly environment during their summer visit.

“Unfortunately, there are only a limited number of spaces left, the teens section is already sold out and demand is very high, so to make sure you book quickly to avoid disappointment,” she said.

The Playhouse Children and Teens Arts Festival will run from Monday July 21 to Friday August 1. To book or for further Information contact the Playhouse Box Office on (028) 71268027.
