Divers rescued off Malin Head

Four Sligo divers had a lucky escape at the weekend after being carried five miles from their boat by strong currents off the coast of Malin Head. They got into difficulty near Portronan around 2pm on Sunday. Two coastguard helicopters from the Irish and UK coastguards and a number of fishing boats in the area at the time, were involved in the rescue. The divers, who are members of the Sligo Sub-aqua Club did not need hospitalisation despite being in the water for almost two hours.
The Annual General Meeting of Donegal Action for Cancer Care (DACC) will take place on Thursday, June 26, 2008 at 8pm in the Mount Errigal Hotel, Letterkenny. All members of DACC are invited to attend. A spokesperson said: "At a time when our cancer
services are in danger of being downgraded at Letterkenny General Hospital, can you afford not to be involved and updated?"

A dance in aid of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Research will be held in the Malin Hotel on Saturday 21st June. Music is by Sharon and Gary Nixon, Followed by a Disco with P J the D.J. A prize draw with proceeds going to Duchenne Ireland Muscular Dystrophy Research will take place at a dance in the Malin Hotel on Friday 25th July. Prizes in the draw are as follows; 1st Prize; 1,000euro, 2nd Prize; weekend for 2 in Slieve Russell +150euro, 3rd Prize; weekend for 2 in Radisson SAS +150euro, 4th Prize; weekend for 2 in Benedict Hotel Belfast +150euro, 5th Prize; weekend for 2 in Malin Hotel +150euro. Tickets are 10euro each and will be on sale soon so please support this very worthy cause.

The Red Cross Society in Malin Head is organising a fundraising sky dive to take place in August. For more information please contact Colm on 087 9623692

Glengad Youth club and community have been chosen as one of the three clubs who could win 10,000 euro in the AIB Better Ireland programme, to fit a new computer suite in the Community Centre. This would help everyone in the community. All we need is for as many people to text, the more texts that is sent the better chance of winning. Drop-in clinics for those caring for an older person take place on the last Monday of every month in Carndonagh Community Hospital.
