Local girl nominated for top entertainment award

Michelle Doherty from Glengad has been nominated for a top entertainment award. Michelle has only been in television for two years and hosts the music programme 'The Night Shift' on the new Channel 6 station. She has been selected as one of only eight nominees for the Film and Television Awards TV Personality of the Year and the eventual winner will be selected by public vote, via text IFTA MCHELLE to 53345 all texts would be greatly appreciated.
Irish Red Cross Re: Defibrillator Certification night for Malin Head/Glengad will take place in Malin Head Community Hall, next Monday, 4th February at 7pm.

Pilgrimage to Medjugorje on June 7th. This is a combined tour with 4 nights in Medjugorje
and 3 nights in Gradac on the Adriatic coast. Flight is from Belfast to Dubrovnik. The cost is 734euro fully inclusive and it is on a half board basis. For further information contact Esther on 074 937 4566 or 086 847 5971.

Can you sew? During Lent, the three chapels in the parish need an altar-cloth and hanging for the ambo made in purple material. All three chapels use the same colour and pattern. If you have the skill and time and would like to help, please contact Sr. Anne or Sr. Lida telephone 9379962 as soon as possible.

Confirmation will take in the Malin parish on Sunday 13th April at 11am.
Church cleaners and flower arrangers will meet to-morrow Saturday 2nd Feb. at 11am at the home of Sisters Anne and Lida. The purpose of the meeting is to plan for the Season of Lent. This invitation is extended to all those who clean the churches and arrange the flowers in all churches of the parish.

Urblereagh National School will hold its annual ceili on Friday 8th February, in St. Patrick's Hall, Malin Town. Dancing from 10pm-1am. Music by the Cottage Ceili Band. Admission is 5euro including supper. Urblereagh N.S. is 150 years old this year and there will be a reunion in August.

Volunteers are needed for Lenten Stations for all area of the parish except Drumcarbit and Leitir. Contact Fr. Brian on 9370615 or Fr. Brendan on 9370134.

There will be new Job seeking programmes beginning in the New Year in Buncrana, Carndonagh and Moville. If you wish to apply for jobs contact The Job Centre Staff on 074 9361376.

Pre-marriage courses will be held in the Pastoral Centre, Carndonagh, on the following dates: 25th/26th January 2008; 22nd/23rd February 2008; 28th/29th March 2008; 25th/26th April 08; 30th/31st May 2008. Courses are from 8pm-10pm on Friday nights and from 10am-5pm on the Saturday. Application forms available from the Pastoral Centre on 9374103between 10.30 am – 12.30 pm.

Good as New Shop in aid of the Destitute in India is opened at Bridge Stree, Carndonagh. This located in the basement next door to the Wesley Hall. Clothes, toys, books or household goods would be greatly appreciated. For further information contact Catherine White on 086 607 6473.

A DVD "The End of an Era" is now on sale, it describes how turf were cut, footed, changed footed and then wheeled to the stack, where they would be collected and brought home to provide a fire. Taking part in the DVD are Larry, Gerry, Neil and Leo Mc Farland, Joe Mc Elhinney and Harry Mc Daid, all from Carndonagh. Carndonagh Community and Rural Development Co. is hosting a Card Drive in Ballyliffen Golf Club to-night at 8pm. 10euro per round and supper will be served. All card players welcome.

Carndonagh Community School extends a very special invitation to the parents of former and current pupils to a Guest Tea Reunion to be held in The Sports Hall on Friday 22nd February. Tickets are on sale in all area's.

The Rasheeny N.S. 25 Card Drive will take place on Friday 8th February at 8pm in the Ballyliffen Golf Club Tickets are 10euro and everyone is welcome.

Award winners at the GAA presentation dinner and dance were as follows; ladies young player of the year, Una McLaughlin; Ladies senior player, Marie Houton; U-12 boys player of the year, Keiron O'Connor; U-13 boys player of the year, Matthew McLaughlin; U-14 boys player of the year, Ryan McDaid; U-16 most improved player, John C Doherty; U-16 player of the year, Finbarr Collins and Gary Farren; minor most improved player, Patrick McColgan; minor player of the year, Terence Doherty; Junior B player of the year, Jason Doherty(Billy); reserve player of the year,Michael McLaughlin(Fildara); Young player of the year, Declan Walsh; senior player of the year, Paddy McColgan; clubperson award, Paul Martin McDaid and John Byrne; hall of fame award,Jimmy Ward.

There were also awards presented to club referees Shaun McLaughlin and Sean Venn while Seamus Doherty, Declan Walsh and Charlie Byrne picked up awards for representing the club at county levels in 2007. Awards were also presented to the ladies who participated in the Mary Houton Memorial Competition which was held during the year while the U-16 and minor sides collected their medals for winning their Inishowen competitions. The boys who played in the Eugene McGeoghegan Memorial competition which was held on December 27th also collected their medals and trophy on the night. Congratulations to all the above and thank you to all who attended.

Indoor football for senior ladies takes place on Thursday evenings from 8-30 to 9-30pm, all ladies are welcome to come along.

Training for U-8 and U-10 girls takes place on Friday's in the GAA centre from 6-30 to 7-30, all girls within the above age groups welcome.

Training for U-8 boys begins again on Sunday, 3rd February in the GAA centre from 11-00 to Midday.

There was no winner of this week's lotto jackpot. The sequence drawn was 4,7,5,2,6,1,3. Rose Connolly, Muff, Culdaff, won the 50euro prize with the 20euro sellers prize going to Shaun Gallagher, Muff, Culdaff. Next weeks jackpot now stands at 650euro. As always, the club thanks the local community for its continued support.
