The death has taken place after a short illness in Letterkenny General Hospital of Patsy Barrett, son of the late Sgt. Patrick and Mrs. Teresa Barrett, Borderview House, Muff.
After spending 25 years in England Patsy came back about four years ago to live with his sister Mary in Muff. Even though he suffered from an addiction he was a great help to other people who were affected by the same illness and he had many friends
in the A.A. who faithfully made sure he had transport to and from A.A. meetings.
Patsy had an outgoing personality and had a good sense of humour. The large number of people who called at the house and attended the funeral was evident of the esteem in which he was held.
His Requiem Mass was concelebrated by his cousin Fr. Denis Quinn and Fr. John Farren in the Sacred Heart Church and in his homily Fr. Quinn described Patsy's life as a continual struggle with an addiction he had to live with on a daily basis. The Lessons were read by his brother Michael, nephews Shane and Darren and a personal poem was recited by his youngest nephew Oisin who had a special bond with his uncle . The Gifts were brought up by his friend Mickey Devlin and Mickey's niece Siobhan Doherty. The music was provided by Neil McLaughlin. It was a poignant moment when his remains were leaving the church he sang 'The Old Rugged Cross', a hymn that Patsy always referred to as the 'Emblem' of his life. Sympathy is extended to his brother Michael, sister Mary, nepehws Shane, Darren and Oisin, sister-in-law Colette and brother-in-law John and to all his friends and relatives.
The death occurred recently in Letterkenny General Hospital of Mary Barron, Lenamore after a long illness bravely borne. She is survived by her husband Frank, her sons Patrick, John, Frankie, Noel and Michael, her daughters Celia, Bridgeen and Margaret, her brothers John, Joe, Gerard and Raymond and her sister Bridie to whom sympathy is extended. She was predeceased by her son Paul, her brothers Peter, Frank and Pat, her sisters Rose and Maggie.
Mary was a very strong woman who wasn't interested in the material things in life but happy to live a simple life dedicating her time to her husband and family.
Requiem Mass was concelebrated in the Sacred Heart Church by Fr. John Farren and Fr. Colm Morris and Fr. Eddie McColgan. The Lessons were read by her grandson Mark and grand-daughter Pauline. Prayers of the Faithful were read by her grandchildren, the Gifts were also brought up by her grandchildren. The music in the church was supplied by her grand-daughters Una and Roisin Brogan and her cousin Gerard Barron. Mary will be sadly missed by family and friends.
