The date has been set, and with just 12 weeks to go until the Foyle Hospice 5k on June 7 organisers have their eyes on that magic number of 5,000.

Last year entries to the city’s best loved walk were just shy of 5,000 - but with the charity celebrating its 30th anniversary this year the push is on to reach 5k runners for the 5k.

The walk/run will follow the route introduced three years ago, with the starting point at Templemore Sports Complex leading to the finish line at Ebrington Square via the Peace Bridge.

This event has grown in popularity year by year. Join Foyle Hospice in a carnival of colours and walk/run to remember a loved one or support your local hospice.

Speaking recently at the launch of the event, Noel McMonagle, Community Fundraising Manager said “I am delighted to be launching our 15th Annual Female Walk/Run. The Female Walk/Run is extremely well supported throughout the whole city and this year I really hope we can break the five thousand participant mark. The city is experiencing a huge boost in walkers and runners taking to the pavements every single day and night, so we are hoping to see that reflected in our Female Walk/Run this year.

“This year, as we celebrate thirty years of providing palliative care in the North West, we are putting a strong emphasis on sponsorship. Please ladies come out and show your support and collect as much as possible. We want our services at Foyle Hospice to remain, and in time grow, to help those most in need. Our support goes beyond our inpatient unit and the individual patients themselves, to include care and support for their family and loved ones. Ask yourself where would we be if Foyle Hospice wasn’t available? Every penny and pound is vital to maintain our local services. I would like to extend sincere thanks to our key sponsors; Seagate and our media partner, the Derry Journal.

For several years now Seagate have been lead sponsor of the Foyle Hospice Female Walk Brian Burns, Vice President, Seagate Springtown Operations commented, “Seagate’s partnership with Foyle Hospice goes back many years and it’s a great privilege to be able to continue to provide financial support for this great event, especially on such a significant anniversary year for the hospice.”

The Foyle Hospice Female Walk/Run will take place on Sunday 7th June 2015 at 1:30pm. The route is approximately 3 miles. Entry is £7 per person. Entry and Sponsorship Forms are available from Foyle Hospice Fundraising Centre, 61 Culmore Road, Telephone 028 71359888 or at the Foyle Hospice Shop, Waterloo Place.
