A Greysteel mum is appealing for urgent action to make the road where she lives safer after her teenage daughter was knocked down and left badly injured.
Lucky to be alive, Ann Marie Conlon’s daughter, Roisin, is recovering in Altnagelvin Hospital, but her mum says the accident has brought long-held concerns about the road to a head.
The speed limit on the Killylane Road is 60mph, apart from two small stretches at 30mph, but Ann Marie says the road is not like other main carriageways. It’s bendy, has a hidden dip, and is dangerous, she says, adding it’s often used as a shortcut into Eglinton.
Ann Marie says it’s time for action.
“Does there have to be a tragedy before anything is done about it?” she says.
Sinn Fein councillor Dermot Nicholl who is to meet with the PSNI and Roads Service about the issue, added: “Something needs to be done before it’s too late.”
