A Derry charity worker has asked for help from the public to mount a fresh campaign highlighting levels of child poverty and hunger.
Action With Effect founder Eamon Melaugh, has asked for assistance in the new project which he is hoping to begin before Christmas.
Mr. Melaugh told the ‘Journal yesterday: “It is my intention to start a letter campaign in an attempt to highlight and change the fact that 30,000 children die from hunger every day.
“This will take organisation and man hours and I would like the Derry public, who have always been so kind in terms of donating money, to help me complete this campaign. If I had a team of volunteers to share the workload it would mean a group of people would make light work of a very worthwhile project.”
Though Eamon is keeping the full details of the project under wraps for now he said the project was aimed at “putting pressure on those who can help but are failing to do so.”
He added: “I think that in a world which spends $10 billion on armaments daily that this is a disgraceful, reprehensible and totally avoidable statistic.”
“I don’t actually believe that we will be able to resolve the issue but I do feel that this is not an acceptable reason for not attempting to help.”
