The Age Concern Derry Annual Gardening Competition Awards Evening were held recently at Malvern House.

This year’s competition was sponsored by Homebase, and store representative, Gerard Martin delivered a talk on the evening, offering tips and advice for winter diseases in the garden.

Judging was undertaken by The City of Derry and District Horticulture Society, with Joan Winters speaking on behalf of the judges, and prizes where presented by Mr Robert Dunseath, Age Concern Derry and Lena Wray, Chairperson City of Derry and District Horticulture Society.

The Overall Winners were as follows; The Age Concern Derry Perpetual Trophy for best overall Garden: Douglas Caldwell, Carrowreagh Park; The BT47 Overall Garden Winner: Douglas Caldwell, Carrowreagh Park; The James Doherty BT48 Overall Garden Award: Ruby Wilson, Richmond Crescent, and the Kitty Kelly Cup - Special Merit Award: Sam Simpson for extensive work at the Foyle Hospice Garden.
