A festive video message recorded by Derry transport company Airporter has ‘gone viral’ as hoardes of Internet savvy travellers tune in to watch the staff dance along to a popular Christmas tune.
Bus drivers, reception staff, the company owner and even her children all got involved to record their own version of ‘Sleigh Ride’ - complete with flashing red noses, reindeer antlers and a guest appearance from Santa.
According to Managing Director Jennifer McKeever she thought this time of year afforded staff the best chance possible to show off with some “silly frolicking”.
“We have such a good team. I don’t think we could have done this with people we didn’t like,” Jennifer laughed as she revealed the idea of the video didn’t really come as a shock to her staff. A few years ago we sponsored the Sound of Music at the Forum, so at that time we hired costumes to recreate the Von Trapp family and took to Rosemount to do our ‘Hills are Alive’ routine.”
This time with a three minute video to fill there was more preparation to do - in fact the garage at the firm’s Bay Road premises was transformed into a dance studio as the team were put through their moves.
Once ready for the cameras, Donal Doherty was brought on board to film the whole shebang and edit it together. “He was great as I think he is a bit accustomed to our ways. He did a great job and didn’t bat an eyelid when we told him we wanted to do a dance routine. “We spent four hours filming - and getting very bemused looks from our customers. It was great fun and we all had a good laugh with it.”
Jennifer, who runs the company along with husband Niall, even roped her two children Trinity (8) and Cormac (6) into the proceedings and the pair enjoyed their time playing Santa. So far the video has close to 3000 views on You Tube and Jennifer said the response has been “brilliant”.
“We’ve been in business for 17 years and have long term relationships with most of our customers so this has been a lovely way to say thank you.”And in case you wondered, the follow up is planned for Halloween.
