The Western Health and Social Care Trust (W.H.S.C.T.) is to close a car park at Altnagelvin Hospital.
The paid for car park in question is referred to locally as the ‘Horseshoe’ car park and is located adjacent to the hospital’s tower block.
The closure is to facilitate the completion of construction works for the new Radiotherapy Centre and allow for works to commence on the new North Wing building.
The car park will no longer be open to public from Sunday May 15 at 9:00p.m.
Replacement parking spaces for those lost due to the construction of the new buildings have already been provided at the new multi-storey car park, which opened in October 2015.
The multi-storey car park is also a paid for car park and the rate of 70p per hour will remain unchanged.
Any current exemptions or concessionary rates for patients parking at the hospital will still apply as per regional guidelines. Further details on concessionary rates can be found on W.H.S.C.T.’s website www.westerntrust.hscni.net or by contacting reception.
Additional signage will be displayed throughout appropriate areas of the hospital site to ensure patients and visitors can locate parking areas easily. The entrance to the new multi-storey car park is located opposite the Nurses’ Home area. Electronic signs indicating space availability are positioned at both Glenshane Road and Crescent Link access routes.
The closure of the ‘Horseshoe’ car park will enable W.H.S.C.T. to continue with the strategic redevelopment of Altnagelvin Hospital site.
All necessary steps will be taken to minimise disruption and patient services and clinics will remain fully operational at all times. Patients and visitors to the hospital are advised to allow sufficient time before scheduled appointments.
“The W.H.S.C.T. would like to thank its patients and the public for their understanding and support as it undertakes this essential work,” said a spokesperson.
