A first anniversary Mass and charity walk in memory of the five people who lost their lives in the Buncrana pier tragedy is to take place in Derry later this month.

Ruth Daniels, her daughter Jodie-lee Tracey, son-in-law Sean McGrotty and his children Mark and Evan, all lost their lives in the tragedy, which unfolded on March 20, 2016.

A statement issued on behalf of their family, reads:

“Louise, the Daniels and the McGrotty family are deeply grateful for the prayers and support over the last year.

“As the anniversary of the terrible tragedy approaches they would welcome space for privacy at this time.

“A First Anniversary Mass will be offered in The Holy Family Church, Ballymagroarty on Monday, March 20 at 7.15pm.

“A Memorial Walk in memory of all five members of the family will take place on Friday March 24, it will begin at 6pm at Sainsbury’s and will proceed to Ebrington Square.”

Registration for the walk will take place at Sainsbury’s Cafe on the day and a Registration Fee of £2.50 can be paid.

All proceeds will go to the Evan McGrotty Research Fund for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
