Appeal after reports of shots fired at house in Derry

Police have confirmed that they have received reports that shots have been fired at a house in the Greater Shantallow area of Derry overnight.

Detectives have launched an appeal for information following the incident.

Detective Constable Emma Marshall said: “Just after 11pm on Monday, it was reported that a number of shots were fired at a house in the area.

“A number of people were in the house at the time however no-one was injured during the incident.

“We have carried out a number of follow-up enquiries to ascertain what happened last night and we are particularly keen to speak to anyone who was in the area or anyone else with any information.

“We are also keen to trace a white vehicle observed driving in the area around the time of the incident.”

Sinn Féin Assembly candidate Elisha McCallion condemned the shooting.

She said: “Such attacks are wrong and I condemn it.

“There can be no place for the use of guns on our streets.

“I would call on anyone with information on this incident to bring it forward to the PSNI.”

Det. Constable Marshall said: “We are appealing to anyone who may have any information regarding this incident to contact detectives at Strand Road Police Station on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 1312 on 27/02/2017. Information can also be given anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
