Appeal after ‘unusual’ burglary

Police have appealed for information about an ‘unusual’ attempted burglary at a restaurant and a related break-in at a nursery school in Derry.

During the two episodes, criminals got onto the roof of a restaurant and a nursery school using ladders.

Police said they proceeded to break skylights on top of the buildings.

At the restaurant, part of a metal extending ladder was left behind inside the premises.

Speaking about the incidents, which took place either on Monday night or in the early hours of Tuesday morning, a PSNI spokesman said:

“It appears to have been dropped from the skylight without access being gained.

“At the nursery, access was gained using a ladder but nothing was stolen.

“The burglars needed to carry the ladder between the premises and police are keen to hear form anyone who noticed such unusual behaviour.”

Information about either of the incidents can be given to the CID on the 101 non-emergency number, or by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
