Teen faces burglary, theft, drugs case

A man has appeared in court accused of burglary and theft from cars.

Emmett Noel Smith, of Marianus Park, faces a total of 13 charges allegedly committed between July 21, last year and March 10, this year.

They include burglary of a house in Creggan, theft from cars in Garden City and Ballynacraig Gardens and interference with vehicles.

The 19-year-old is further charged with criminal damage, handling stolen goods and possession of drugs.

An investigating officer told Derry Magistrate’s Court she believed she could connect the teenager, who was on bail at the time some of the alleged offences were committed, to the charges.

There was no application for bail and Smith was remanded in custody.

Before he was led from the dock, the 19-year-old said: ‘I have a drug problem that was why the grass and valium were there’.

Smith will appear in court again later this morning to give his attitude to the charges.
