Artlink celebrates Community Arts Day

Artlink, a visual arts organisation based in Inishowen, is taking part in the 3rd World Community Arts Day on Tuesday next, February 17, 2009.

The idea behind the event is to create a World Festival Society for a day. The first two years of World Community Arts Day have seen events from as far as Brazil, Slovenia, Scotland, Australia, USA, Mexico and as well as here in Ireland taking part. On this day hundreds of artists and communities worldwide will use the theme of "art as a catalyst for caring and sharing" as the basis for the activities arranged on the day.

Artlink is delighted at joining the rest of the world to celebrate this important and exciting day. Education Officer Crna Lynch of Artlink says: "We are hosting free drop-in art and craft workshops for the community to celebrate this day".

Two workshops will be held on the day, both from 1pm – 3pm in the Artlink studios, with well-established artists Joanna McGlynn and Franck Saucian. "Joanna will have fun creating lots of crafts with toddlers, children and their parents in the basement studio, while Franck will help adults explore their inner creativity with a drawing and painting workshop in the upstairs studio" said Crna.

These workshops are completely free for this one off event to celebrate World Community Arts Day 2009! They will take place at the Artlink studios in Tullyarvan Mill, Buncrana. The workshops are drop-in, however if you would like to book ahead as workshops may fill up fast then please contact Crna at Artlink on +353 (0) 74 93 63469 or email education@artlink.ie
