An illuminating panel discussion will take place at the Context Gallery on Artillery Street next Friday, April 15.
‘It’s a fight for the city… and it’s a fight for the money’ is an afternoon of free and open discussion for contemporary visual arts with guest speakers Annie Fletcher (Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven), Wayne Baerwaldt (Illingworth Kerr Gallery, Calgary), Colin Darke (Independent artist, Belfast) and moderated by Damien Duffy (Visual Arts Ireland, Void, Derry).
“Derry will deliver a substantial programme of cultural activity which will lead to a demonstrable step-change in the city, and a lasting legacy,” say the Department of Culture Media and Sport.
With the exciting potential of regeneration for the city bringing about social and economic benefits, what strategies can artists, curators and galleries employ to capitalize on this unique opportunity.
What actions need to be considered that will create a lasting legacy and step-change to the community and to the infrastructure of the visual arts. Once the party is over what will be the state of the visual arts community in Derry?
This discussion will take place at the Context Gallery next Friday, April 15, from 1.30pm until 6pm.
Admission is free and refreshments will be served.
