When entering a New Year, many of us want to improve our physical wellbeing through diet or exercise, but a new service from a local charity advises us that thinking about our emotional well-being is just as important.

AWARE is the leading provider of Mindfulness in Northern Ireland and to celebrate its 2016 courses starting in the Tower Museum every Friday 2pm to 4pm from January 8 to February 12, it is giving away a luxury half-day pamper session to ONE lucky reader + A FRIEND to enjoy some rest and relaxation in the newly refurbished Shipquay Natural Health Clinic.

A spokeswoman said: “Mindfulness is a world recognised technique that can help to decrease anxiety, worry and stress and allow people to focus energy and enthusiasm on improving their personal and professional life.

“Research has shown than Mindfulness has significant benefits for health and wellbeing, it helps reduce stress and anxiety for those with depression.

“It is a skill for life and by developing that skill it allows people to become more aware of their feelings and emotions.”

AWARE’s Mindfulness Practitioner, Frank Liddy, has more than 25 years experience in the mental health sector and has been at the forefront of developing creative mindfulness based initiatives to communities across Northern Ireland. His courses are hugely popular and include a diverse range of ages and professions.

Frank says, “People attending our course get so much out of the group sessions as we explore experiences they have and the obstacles that arise in everyday life. There is a weekly theme and we use guided meditation practices to bring benefit to participants.

“We know participants will gain confidence and awareness, as well as developing the tools and skills necessary to deal with life’s challenges. Our relaxation prize will be a great start to the New Year and hopefully give the winner a bit of time to themselves to prepare for the challenges 2016 will bring.”
