A Strabane woman who was jailed earlier this week for stealing a pair of jeans worth £10 has been granted bail in the High Court.
Alison Hewitt, 27, from Patterson Park, Strabane, was released on Friday on her own surety of £250 until an appeal against her conviction and sentence can be heard.
Hewitt, who appeared by video link from Hydebank Women’s Prison had been convicted on Wednesday and sentenced to three months in prison following a trial which last five days.
Derry Crown Court heard Hewitt had taken three pairs of jeans to a changing room but returned two. Police found the third in her baby’s pram.
The judge said she had been given several opportunities to plead guilty.
The chair of the Assembly’s Justice Committee has tabled a number of questions to the Justice Minister about the case.
