The DUP’s East Derry MP Gregory Campbell has said the DARD HQ move to Ballykelly - which should see the employment of 350 staff - will generate more than £10 million per year to the local economy in salaries.

Mr Campbell said: “I first of all sought to establish approximately how many staff at each level would be employed on the Ballykelly site when it becomes operational in 2017.

“Having received that I then sought the average salary levels for those positions, this now means that we not only know the numbers of personnel involved in the initial move, but we also know the average salary banding levels involved.”

“The 350 staff in the various grades involved will be earning a total of approximately £10.3million annually according to the figures supplied by the Department.

“There will obviously be a number of other private sector initiatives in the large site as well as more DARD employees in subsequent years so this is very good news for the Ballykelly / Limavady and wider North West community, which should get better in the future.

“The site which is currently empty and costing the public purse a considerable sum just to maintain and secure, is going to be put to good use, we must continue to maximise it’s use for present and future generations”
