A Derry hotel is in the running for one of the top awards in the Irish hospitality industry.

The luxurious four star Beech Hill Country House Hotel at Ardmore has been shortlisted for one of this year’s Hotel and Catering Review Gold Medal Awards, in the Country House and Guest House category.

The prestigious Gold Medal Awards are widely recognised as the leading independent awards programme for the Irish hospitality industry. Each year they attract hundreds of entries from Ireland’s leading tourism providers.

The awards, which have been running for almost three decades, are designed to encourage hotels, restaurants, guest houses, spa and leisure facilities, event caterers, healthcare caterers, site caterers, as well as individuals and teams, to aspire to the highest standard of product and service in the industry.

The Beech Hill is one of only a handful of traditional family owned and run hotels in Northern Ireland. Since 1991, three generations of the Donnelly and O’Kane families have welcomed guests, making them feel special as they enjoy Irish home hospitality at its best in an authentic Georgian country house.

The hotel enjoys an idyllic woodland setting on the outskirts of Derry city and is the byword for culinary excellence and luxury accommodation.

The Beech Hill’s reputation for quality is reflected in the number of high profile repeat visitors, including former US President Bill Clinton and his wife, Hillary.

Over the years, the hotel has collected numerous awards. The most recent additions to the ‘Wall of Fame’ include The Georgina Campbell’s Hotel of the Year, 2015; John & Sally McKenna’s 100 Best Place to Stay,2015; and Irish Restaurant Association Best Hotel Restaurant, Derry, 2014.

At the core of the operation is owner and manager Patsy O’Kane - who last year was awarded a MBE for services to tourism and hospitality. Her passion for the

family business and drive for excellence is infectious and shared by staff who deliver a consistently high standard of service.

Patsy says she is thrilled that the Beech Hill has been shortlisted for the 2015 Gold Medal Awards.

“It is a great accolade to be recognised as one of the top country houses in Ireland. We work very hard to create exceptional experiences for all our customers and aim to exceed expectations every time!”
