A huge open-air party will be held at Free Derry Corner in the Bogside next Saturday as part of Féile 2012.
The Big Bog BBQ will involve a wide variety of international and local cuisine, as well as a street party featuring the cream of local talent.
The event will be held at Free Derry Corner on Saturday August 11th from 3am and is designed as a diversionary activity to coincide with the Apprentice Boys march in the city centre.
Among the local performers who will be taking to the main stage at the street party will be the McCaffertys, Claddagh, Penny McGarrigle, who will be hosting a karaoke session, and performers from the Dolphin Dance Studio.
As well as the musical entertainment, there will also be an international food fair with dishes from various countries from across the world, including Italian, Chinese, Indian, American, Mexican, alongside the best of local cuisine, giving residents a chance to sample the diet of cultures from across the globe.
There will also be an arts and crafts showcase by local artist Caroline Devenney and members of the Féile team will be on hand to instruct young people in old school games to give them an idea what their parents and grandparents used to get up to in years gone by.
Féile co-ordinator Ami McBride said the event has been organised after discussions with local residents about what they want to see happening in their area.
“The residents came to us a few months ago asking for an event to be held at Free Derry Corner which would allow them to enjoy their area on the second Saturday in August.
“We appreciate when the public comes to us and tells us what they want and we help facilitate the running of it. We have a good programme of multiculturalism planned for the event and it was kindly sponsored by Derry City Council’s Good Relations Pilot Scheme.
“If the weather holds up we are set to have a great day,” she said.
