Billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates may be on his way to Derry, it’s been revealed.

The world’s second richest man and Chairman of software giant Microsoft has been invited to attend Rotary International’s Peace Forum in Derry this summer.

“He is the most famous Rotarian in the world and so we have invited him to the peace conference in May,” said Gavin Killeen, President of the Rotary Club of Londonderry.

He added that the business magnate who has donated many hundreds of millions of dollars has “not yet confirmed” that he will be attending.

More than 1,000 Rotarians from around the world will see “culturally led regeneration” in action when they visit the city this summer, Mr Killeen added.

The Rotary International conference or Global Peace Forum will be held in the city over the weekend of May 24-26.

The local Rotary club in partnership with the University of Ulster’s International Conflict Research Institute (INCORE), will host the event as part of Rotary’s year of ‘Peace through service’.
