Body found confirmed as missing Derry man

Gardai have confirmed that the body of a man found during a search at Inishowen was that of missing Derry man Antony (Tony) Griffiths.

The 59-year-old had been missing from Isle of Doagh since August 30th and a massive three-day got underway involving the Lough Swilly RNLI, Greencastle Coast Guard and the Sligo 118 helicopter.

On Thursday, the Sligo 118 helicopter recovered a body from the rocks at bear Lagg beach. The man was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital for formal identification.

Gardai later confirmed Mr Griffiths had been found deceased and thanked everyone for their assistance in the search.

Mr Griffiths had been last seen close to Doagh Famine village, where he had been camping with family members.

Funeral details have yet to be confirmed.
