Break in at Carndonagh FC

There was a break in at the clubhouse at St Patrick’s Park, Malin Road, some time between 9pm on February 28, and 10am on March 1.

A Garda spokesperson said: “We don’t believe there was anything taken but a window was broken.”

Local councillor and Carndonagh FC chairman said the break in was “an attack on the community.”

“The clubhouse is used so regularly by the community, that this is seen as an attack on the community.

“The clubhouse at St Patrick’s Park was locked up after use at 9pm on Tuesday evening. Unfortunately a member of the committee came to open up on Wednesday morning to find a window was smashed.

“The club room had been entered, but there was nothing of significant value. There were blood marks on different areas of the clubhouse, and Gardai were informed,” he said.

Colr Doherty said all club activities had to be postponed on Wednesday evening, which resulted in under 8 and under 10 training to be called off. However, all club activites resumed last night.

“The club house is there a long time, and over a number of years there have been different developments, with internal rooms being englarged. It is an secluded spot, but at the same time it is used extensively by the local community.

“We are proud of our underage players, who last year reached an All Ireland semi final. It is very unfortunate that under 8 and under 10 training had to be cancelled.

“Actions have consequences, and we had to make sure that the Gardai were able to carry out their investigation,” he said.

Colr Doherty added that he is “very proud” of the volunteers and the local community in Carndonagh who help out at Carndonagh FC.

“We have young people who wear the jersey of Carndonagh FC and they represent their homes, their families and their parish very proudly.

“I would appeal to anyone with any information about the break in to contact Gardai, and all local people to remain vigilant at night time,” he said.
