“A lot of people have complained about it to me,” Colr. Douglas told the ‘Journal’.

“I am trying to get it addressed, and I am hoping steps will be taken to get it removed. I condemn it.

“It is disgraceful that anyone would do that to public property. They obviously don’t care. They just come along with a can of spray paint and then they’re away.”

A spokesperson for Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council said they were looking into the matter.

“Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has been made aware that graffiti has been put on to a bus shelter in Burnfoot,” said a Council spokesperson.

“This information has been forwarded to the Council’s maintenance team. It will be inspected and removed as required.”

Sinn Fein councillor Sean McGlinchey said the graffiti “doesn’t represent the people of Burnfoot”.

“I think this is someone trying to raise tensions ahead of the election, without a doubt. It’s the first time it has happened, to my knowledge,” said Colr. McGlinchey. “There is no place for graffiti anywhere, and this doesn’t represent the people of Burnfoot.”
