£2 million worth of funding has been announced for the development of both the Daisyfield and Brandywell Showgrounds.
The announcement was made yesterday in the Northern Ireland Assembly by Sports Minister Carál Ní Chuilín.
The cash boost has been welcomed by her party colleague and Foyle MLA Raymond McCartney.
“The redevelopment of the entire Foyle Valley/Brandywell Masterplan has now been unlocked – in conjunction with Council funding of £2.8 million,” he said. “It will have a massive impact in terms of promoting social inclusion, tackling health and social inequalities, building sporting excellence and maximising participation.”
The announcement was also welcomed by Charles Lamberton, of Triax, who said: ”The redevelopment will provide much needed facilities in the area and will be the first phase of the wider regeneration of the Brandywell and surrounding areas.”
