Adrian and Damien Garvey, Directors of the BWL Group celebrate the creation of up to 30 new jobs in the Groups latest artisan coffee shop brand, Synge & Byrne. The new site will open in the summer in Foyleside Shopping Centre where the company has an existing OBriens coffee shop.

Thirty new jobs have been announced for Derry with the news that artisan coffee shop brand Synge and Byrne is to open an outlet in the city centre.

One of the men responsible for bringing the jobs to Derry, BWL Director Damien McGarvey, says his company offers “well above the minimum wage usually offered for these type of positions.”

The BWL Group manages the O’Brien’s coffee shops in the North and will be based in Foyleside Shopping Centre, when it opens an outlet for its newest coffee shop brand. The Synge and Byrne outlet is expected to open in early July.

The positions are now available for candidates to apply for, and include both full and part time managers, kitchen staff and front of house servers. The new Synge & Byrne site will trade in Foyleside’s Level four area, along with the company’s existing O’Brien’s outlet in the food court.

Speaking as the announcement was made, Mr. Garvey said: “This is an exciting year for us as we extend our company portfolio. As we currently have an O’Brien’s site in Foyleside, we know it’s the perfect location to open our latest venture. We launched Synge & Byrne in late 2013 in Greater Belfast and it is already proving popular with a new audience of coffee connoisseurs who are enjoying its artisan approach.”

Newry based BWL Group has been trading for twelve years, the new positions will increase its employee total in Derry to 60.

Mr Garvey added: “The BWL Group is a strong local employer. Indeed, several of our staff have been with us since our first O’Brien’s opened in 1999 and we will work hard to maintain this record, by continuing to offer training and career development opportunities to our employees.”

Foyleside Manager Fergal Rafferty has welcomed the latest addition to the centre.

He said, “Foyleside has had a successful partnership with the BWL Group since 2008 and are delighted to welcome Synge & Byrne to the Centre. Our shoppers like to have a wide and varied choice of cuisine, and as Synge & Byrne’s menu combines quality Irish ingredients with an international twist, I’m confident it will be an instant hit. I believe there are more sites planned to open over the next 18 months, however it’s great that Foyleside has been selected as the preferred location in the North West.”
