£5m. ‘Full House’ boost at Foyleside Shopping Centre
Foyleside Shopping Centre in Derry is celebrating a ‘Full House’ after completing a letting agreement with leading European fashion chain, H&M.
At a time when shopping centres across the country are struggling with vacant units, Foyleside is bucking the trend.
Every unit in the complex is now taken and Criona Collins, from commercial letting agents, BTWShiells, says: “A proactive policy of innovation and investment has secured Foyleside’s position as one of Northern Ireland’s most successful shopping centres, delivering excellent footfall and a superb mix of tenants.
“I am delighted our expertise has now brought to completion the final phase of a successful letting programme which has seen £5m investment and the creation of new jobs for Derry city centre.
“One of the highlights of the investment programme will undoubtedly be the opening in the Autumn of H&M, a company which is at the cutting edge of the fashion industry in Europe.”
H&M will join Next as one of Foyleside’s main anchor tenants.
The store will occupy 20,000sq ft and, on completion, will be the biggest H&M oulet in the North outside of Belfast city centre.
Established tenants, Top Shop and Top Man, are also investing, increasing their floor space from 6,000 to 9,000 sq. ft. to include a state-of-the-art fit-out, adding an extra dimension to their customers’ shopping experience.
Other new outlets to open in the centre are Jane Norman, Edinburgh Woollen Mill, Vogue and HOI POLLOI.
Announcing this latest series of fashion coups, Fergal Rafferty, Foyleside Centre Manager, said: “I believe very few, if any, shopping centres in Ireland or the UK are fully let so we are naturally delighted at this evidence of our success. But, for us, it isn’t only a matter of putting up the ‘House Full’ sign.
“Working closely with our letting agent, BTWShiells, we have focused on bringing the best possible customer offer into the heart of Derry, creating what we believe is an unrivalled fashion mix. The centre has always offered its customers an eclectic mix of stores and, with the addition of a number of new outlets, we’re now in a position to deliver an amazing and carefully balanced shopping experience under one roof.
“We are thrilled at the confidence which some of the biggest names in retailing have put in Foyleside and in Derry and we look forward to some great trading this year and beyond.
“While the economic climate may be tough, this latest success is evidence, we believe, that if you have the right product then deals can still be done,” the Foyleside manager added.
