Proposals for a new 17-bedroom boutique hotel and bar on Derry’s Shipquay Street have just been lodged with Planning Service.

The submitted plans refer to No. 15-17 Shipquay Street, an historic building and former bank at the upper end of the street adjacent to the Richmond’s Centre’s Shipquay Street entrance.

If approved, the new hotel would certainly spruce up Shipquay Street, which has suffered greatly during the economic downtown. The building was previously a branch of the First Trust Bank.

Foyleview Builders are the developers of the proposed hotel, with ASI Architects in Clarendon Street designing the layout.

The plans include an additional 67 square metres of floor area within the existing lightwell and 8 lead clad dormer windows to the building’s existing Mansford roof.

The planning application for the proposed hotel will be published next week.
