Brexit: Foyle votes overwhelmingly to '˜Remain' in the EU

The Foyle Constituency has voted by a majority in excess of 20,000 to remain as part of the European Union.

The result of the count has just been announced within the last few minutes at the count centre at the Foyle Arena.

Deputy Counting Officer Patricia Murphy read the result.

The total number of ballot papers counted was 40,987. The number of votes cast in favour of Remain was 32,064 and the number of votes cast in favour of Leave was 8,905. There were 18 rejected ballots.

In all this mean that those in favour of staying within the EU in the Foyle Constituency polled a majority of 23,159.
