Speculation was rife in Donegal Town over last weekend as news emerged that a number of high profile couples had booked one of the area’s most high profile hotels for their wedding destinations.

Most of the speculation surrounds English International and Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard and his bride to be, Lurgan born Christine Bleakley, who it is rumoured are set to tie the knot in the prestigious Lough Eske Castle Hotel.

The hotel is known to be a favourite amongst many celebrities as it offers complete luxury, spacious grounds and total privacy.

A Donegal native who is living in London and friendly with members of the first team at Chelsea FC told the Donegal Democrat, “I know they have been discussing Donegal Town as their destination but I would not like to say much more as I don’t want to ruin their big day but don’t be surprised if you see a lot of blue and white around Donegal after the European Championships!”

Local sources have also claimed that the date that the celebrity couple had originally had already been booked by a local couple but on receipt of a large six figure sum, the couple agreed to switch their dates.

Both Lampard and Bleakley have said in the past that they will not be selling the exclusive rights to any magazines. Christine said, “It will be very personal day, so we won’t be selling it to a magazine - absolutely not.

“Frank and I are both incredibly conscious in front of a camera and besides anything else, it would be my parents’ worst nightmare.”

The current speculation comes on foot of an earlier visit by Open Champion Darren Clarke and his fiancee, Allison Campbell, who spent a very relaxing week in the Castle after his Open success, taking in a spot of fishing on the lake and enjoying the famous Donegal hospitality in the local pubs and restaurants.

A spokesperson for the prestigious hotel which has become a home away from home for many household names, denied any knowledge of the events but did concede that there had been a lot of speculation.

“However, we do maintain a strict policy of not divulging any of our potential or confirmed guests’ information - the fact that we maintain this confidentially makes it one of our unique selling points.”
