Chocolate Clothing at Foyle Street in Derry has been shortlisted for two fashion industry awards and representatives will be at the gala ceremony in London on November 21.

Derry’s Chocolate Clothing store has been shortlisted in the final of two major fashion awards for the UK and Ireland.

The retail outlet at Foyle Street - which also has a popular online store - is in the running for Young Fashion Independent of the Year and Multi Channel Operator of the Year in the Drapers Independent Fashion Awards 2013.

David Conaghan, proprietor of Chocolate which was founded in Derry in 2007, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our company to be recognised by the Drapers Fashion Magazine as one of the leading retailers in the UK and Ireland. We have been shortlisted alongside nine other stores for the Young Fashion Independent of the year and we are in the final four for Multi Channel Operator of the Year which celebrates companies that sell on a multi channel platform i.e. store, website, mobile.

“This is a huge honour to be sitting alongside some of the biggest and best retailers in the UK. We are also the only Irish company to make the cut, so we are over the moon to be held in such high regard by our older peers in the fashion industry. “

The fashion business is a highly competitive industry which has seen huge changes in the past few years with the rise of online retailing and the value sector, he said.

“We have adapted and changed our model of doing business to satisfy the needs of ever changing consumer shopping habits and the Drapers Fashion Awards celebrates companies that have been revolutionary and innovative in this fast paced industry.”

Eric Musgrave from Drapers, said: “The Drapers Independents Awards are the Oscars of the fashion retailing sector. Drapers, the weekly magazine for the fashion business, is 126 years-old this year. Its annual awards recognise the best fashion retailers in the UK and Ireland. The winners are chosen by a panel of judges, most of whom are former winners, so the best fashion retailers in the country select the next generation of the best fashion retailers.”
