A Derry businessman has called for something to be done about a derelict building on Shipquay Street.

Peter Herald from Cashmaker described the building as “a complete eyesore.”

“I have spoken to all the relevant agencies but there seems to be confusions and contradictions about who is responsible. One thing that is certain is that it is bad for business. This is supposed to be a city of culture and we hear about conservation areas but we have a derelict building boarded up on one of the main streets.

“As well as being unsightly, I am worried that people could get in there and start a fire. The police have already removed people from the building in the past so that is a real concern for us,” the businessman added.
