The Managing Director of Derry firm Hunter Apparel Solutions has spoken of his shock at outperforming all other UK candidates in the Institute of Directors’ (IoD) company leadership exams.
Simon Hunter this week learned that not only has he been awarded Chartered Director status by the IoD but that he also came out on top of the 220 candidates taking the Certificate in Company Leadership exam.
“When I received the letter from IoD I assumed I was being informed about some other candidate’s success, when I realised the top UK exam score was in fact my own, to say I was shocked would be an understatement,” Simon says.
The Derry firm’s MD says “the whole process of gaining Chartered Director status is hugely stimulating and enjoyable although challenging to fit study around my substantial MD’s workload.”
“I feel much better equipped to direct this company now that I have gained so much relevant learning to complement my 8 years of Directorial experience. I would strongly recommend the course to anyone looking to further their directorial learning,” he says.
Last year Simon won the IoD Northern Ireland Family Business Director of the Year award 2012, and then later in the year when he qualified for the UK finals winning the Highly Commended UK Family Business Director of the Year award 2012.
Hunter Apparel Solutions Ltd is one of Derry’s oldest companies having been established in 1936 and having celebrated their 75th year in business in 2011.
The company has diversified in recent times to become the country’s leading uniform supplier. It includes Emirates, Body Shop International, An Post, HSCNI, British Airports Authority, and Canon UK.
