Around 100 people joined the dole queue in Derry last month bringing the total number of people signing on in the city to almost 6000.
The latest Department of Enterprise, Trade & Investment released today, show a total of 5973 people are currently claiming unemployment related benefits in the Derry City Council area.
At 8.4% of the total number of people of working age, the Derry rate is the highest of all 26 local authorities in the north.
Ninety three people joined the dole queue in Derry in June.
Meanwhile across the north, 1370 people came off the dole last month. DUP Enterprise minister Arlene Foster says this is the single biggest monthly decrease since 2002.
“While we would wish to see even more people leaving unemployment, the current labour market indicators suggest that some progress is being made on this front,” she said.
