Planning application has been granted for a new boutique hotel in Derry city centre.
The 17 bed boutique hotel and bar facilities to be built by Foyleview Builders LTD., will be developed in the former Bank building on Shipquay Street - a grade B1 listed building.
Environment Minister Alex Attwood said: “This is good news for Derry. With the recent announcement by Lonely Planet that Northern Ireland is in the top 10 European travel destinations, this boutique hotel in the heart of Derry will enhance choice for tourists, business travellers as well as local people.
“I am committed to the regeneration of Derry City as the economic heart of the North West. Planning decisions on hotels, Fort George, Ebrington, the Peace Bridge, the Science Park and many more besides, show a firm commitment to help shape this historic City now and in to the future.
“One of the major opportunities arising from the City’s title as UK City of Culture 2013 is the increase in visitor numbers. DOE has approved a total of 386 additional bed spaces,” he said.
