Economic conference a ‘good beginning’

Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Ó hOisín has described the Economic Forum held in Limavady as very successful and a good beginning to a series of similar forums to be held in the future.

Mr Ó hOisín said: “I was delighted that the conference held in Limavady on Thursday night was well attended and was very successful in bringing together various strands of the community voluntary and the business community. There was a very lively and useful panel discussion into how we develop the Limavady area and improve the economic situation for everyone. There was a good participation by the statutory and voluntary sector who had staff and stands available to give advise to the business community. I was particularly impressed by the interesting proposals put forward by some of the many young people who attended the conference and the practical advice given out by those already in business. This is the first of a series of conferences aimed at developing a strategy that will encourage and help businesses develop in the East Derry area. Given the success of this conference I am planning a full one day seminar for the Coleraine area of the constituency in the near future.”

Limavady mayor, Sean McGlinchey wants to see a coming together of all parties and local agencies to take the discussion from the conference forward. He said Council should be heavily involved and take the lead, so all bodies can work together and keep the pressure on the Assembly.

Limavady councillors meet next week to strike the rate for the year ahead, which the ‘Journal’ understands to be in the region of 1.12 per cent.
