The Alley Theatre, Strabane, picked up an award for "Excellence in arts management and business relationships" at the recent Allianz Arts & Business NI Art Awards 2009.
It is a major achievement for the new arts centre, which opened in 2007.
The Allianz Arts and Business Awards are held to recognise and celebrate the importance the arts have to play in the development of successful businesses and in building communities. The Alley Theatre, alongside its main theatre supporters, RE/MAX, Linton and Robinson’s, Craft Recruitment and Oysters Restaurant, demonstrated to the Allianz judging panel a high level of service, co-operation and development which has benefited local businesses, the community and the Alley itself.
Philip Faithful, Strabane District Council Chief Executive, said: “Strabane District Council is delighted that one of our leading council facilities has now been recognised for their excellence in arts management and developing creative business relationships. The Alley, which only opened in 2007, has now developed a strong reputation as being customer focused, placing a strong emphasis on providing high quality services to the public via its challenging theatre programming and wonderful art gallery.
“With Alley patrons now travelling from across Tyrone, Derry, Donegal and beyond, the Alley has made excellent strides in developing the arts within Strabane and attracting visitors to the area.”
Speaking after the awards, John Kerr, Alley Theatre manager, said: “We are delighted to accept this award from Arts and Business, supported by Allianz and we look forward to working on even more creative projects in 2009/2010."
