BIshop’s Field synthetic pitch is to undergo “extensive works” in the coming months according to Derry City Council.
A temporary floodlighting system has been used at the Council run facility for the past year. This is due to safety concerns following damage during storms last winter.
The large floodlighting posts were taken down one year ago. Last week a number of regular users of the facility contacted The Journal, one asked: “We are now approaching a year since this happened and the lights are still not repaired.
“I personally have a booking there every week for the last ten years and I believe that taking this long to resolve it is a disgrace, something needs done.”
A spokesperson for Derry City Council explained; “We are currently reviewing the temporary lighting arrangements for the pitch and will be taking on board comments raised by regular users.
“A detailed remedial works plan is in place to carry out extensive works to the facility during November, December and January.
“The Council is working closely with users to keep them abreast of any progress.”
