Lough Foyle Ferry Company Ltd Greencastle / Magilligan Ferry Service will be suspended from close of business this weekend, on Sunday, 2 October 2011.
The company announced the news last month.
The ferry service, in operation since 14 June 2002, has provided a valuable link between the North West and the North East regions.
In a statement, Limavady Borough Council and Donegal County Council thanked Lough Foyle Ferry Company Ltd for operating the ferry service between Greencastle and Magilligan for the past nine years.
“Celebration of the two million passenger mark in early 2011 was a tribute to the success of the venture,” said the statement. “ Over the coming weeks Limavady Borough Council and Donegal County Council will be considering options for delivery of the ferry service during 2012. Both Councils would like to convey thanks to the many users of the service for their support over the years.”
A notice on each pier says the Lough Foyle Ferry Company regrets the service will be suspended from the close of business on Sunday, October 2nd. The notices say directors of the company hope the suspension will be temporary, and they look forward to recommencing operations early in 2012.
