Long’s SuperValu, Strand Road, Derry, and Gormley’s Centra, Claudy, have been recognised at the prestigious Excellence Ireland Quality Association (EIQA) 2011 National Q Mark Awards.
The awards were presented at a ceremony in the Burlington Hotel, Dublin.
Long’s SuperValu won the Q Mark Award for Hygiene and Food Safety in the Northern Ireland Supermarkets category, while Gormley’s Centra, Claudy were the winners in the Northern Ireland Retail Convenience Store category.
Gormley’s Centra and Long’s SuperValu outshone all the stores which received the Q Mark Award in Northern Ireland to claim the top award which recognises exceptional standards throughout the island of Ireland.
On receipt of the Q Mark Award, Gormley’s Centra store owner George Gormley said: “We are proud and delighted to have won this award. We work hard to create a friendly and appealing shopping environment and this award recognises the commitment of our staff.”
Catherine Gallagher, store manager at Long’s SuperValu, Strand Road, Derry, said the store was honoured to be recognised on the all-Ireland stage.
“Winning the Q Mark Award for Hygiene and Food Safety in the NI Supermarkets category means a lot to us, as it recognises the hard work and commitment all the team put in to making the store better for all our customers.”
Speaking at the awards ceremony, the Managing Director of The National Q Mark, Irene Collins, said: “What gets focused on gets results!
“This seems to be the mantra used by George and his team at Gormley’s Centra Claudy and it’s given them an excellent result!
