The City of Derry Jazz and Big Band festival is renowned for a fantastic musical offering but it will also be providing the opportunity of some equally excellent retail therapy. That’s thanks to the ‘Golden Note’ shopping campaign which is being organised by the City Centre Initiative with support from Derry City Council, Ilex and the Derry Visitor and Convention Bureau.
Shops in the city will be offering a range of discounts to 30,000 plus visitors who will flood into Derry through the duration of the Jazz Festival, which runs from Thursday April 28th until Monday May 2.
With a superb range of independent retailers, fashion and designer shops, big name fashion outlets, the world’s oldest department store and major shopping centres, Derry is the place to be for spring shopping offers and an exciting retail experience with fabulous value and quality.
Participating shops, displaying ‘Golden Note’ posters, will be offering numerous promotions and discounts.
Angela Hughes of Ilex said: “With such large numbers coming into the city, it is important everyone knows that the city is not just buzzing with music but with an even better shopping offer and fantastic value for money. The campaign is about offering something extra and making a difference to people’s pockets while they are in town for the weekend.
“The participation from retailers has been fantastic and this is spread right throughout the city centre. There is a great mix of retailers taking part. This retail promotion is also being supported through the City of Derry Jazz and Big Band Festival marketing campaign, which promotes both the city and festival to local and international visitors and includes TV adverts, press and publication placements web and emarketing campaigns.”
Mayor of Derry Colum Eastwood said: “The ‘Golden Note’ campaign is a fantastic idea. In these current financially difficult times it’s important that we maximise every opportunity to bring shoppers into the heart of our city. I would urge visitors to the festival and residents of the city alike to look out for the Golden Jazz Note in shop windows, cafes, restaurants and bars throughout the city and avail of the discounts on offer.
