Donegal North West TD Joe McHugh has welcomed the Tourism Minister’s decision to promote Donegal in a major national promotion.
Deputy McHugh said; “When Open Championship winner Darren Clarke announced last January that the Irish Open will take place at Royal Portrush in June 2012, I contacted Minister for Tourism Leo Varadkar to ask him to promote Donegal as a location for tourists attending the Irish Open. Portrush is 20 miles from Magilligan (Derry), which is a 15-minute ferry journey from Greencastle. The Irish Open is on our doorstep!
“Minister Varadkar has now commissioned Fáilte Ireland to produce an 8-page newspaper supplement promoting Donegal as a destination for golf tourists. That supplement will be published in an April edition of the Irish Independent. This is excellent news for our county.”
