Tourism Minister Arlene Foster has said a new self-catering development near Strabane will provide a boost to tourism in Co. Tyrone.

Speaking at the official opening of Finn Valley Cottages at Glebe, the Minister said: “This marvellous facility offers accommodation finished to a very high standard for visitors to a region that offers so much for tourists, especially those seeking exciting activity holidays in one of our most picturesque areas.

“It is an excellent example of the type of high quality investment that we are keen to encourage and to help businesses wishing to support the extensive campaign by the Executive and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board to grow tourism revenues here.

“Encouragingly, more schemes like this are being put forward to NITB by local businesses as tourism here continues to grow in strength.

“Local entrepreneurs are responding to the success of the ni2012 campaign and the major events that have taken place already and of those yet to come both this year and next.”

Finn Valley Cottages were first certified as self-catering accommodation in December 2011 and, supported by the Department of Agriculture & Rural Development’s Rural Development Programme (RDP), subsequently achieved grading as four-star status under NITB’s new Common Standards quality grading scheme.

The properties also more than met the criteria for four welcome schemes - anglers, cyclists, families and walkers - and will be marketed in Germany, France and Belgium with a focus on the activity tourism market.
