People in the Glen area will soon be able to see plans for a £10m. Community centre and social housing development for the area, Sinn Féin Foyle MLA Maeve McLaughlin has said.
Ms McLaughlin was speaking after meets representatives from Derry City Council, Apex Housing and the Glen Development Initiative recently to discuss the plans for housing and community development in the Glen area.
Maeve McLaughlin described the meeting as “very satisfactory”, adding that the talk centred on the £10 million housing and community development in the Creggan Burn.
Ms McLaughlin said: “The development consists of several social housing units, and a new community centre.
“The project was one that I was happy to lead from its inception during my time at the Glen Development Initiative and I was keen to receive an update on progress.
“I was very pleased to hear that the partnership involved was able to report on the advanced stage of the project.
“I was satisfied that the matter will be going out for public consultation within the next couple of weeks and the local community will be able to see the plans and make their views known.”
The Foyle MLA added: “I have also received assurances that the development will include Social Clauses to attempt to deliver a local benefit from the construction phase.”
Planning Minister Mark Durkan approved a footpath and cycleway with landscaping and fencing at Creggan Burn a few months ago.
